• 1909

    Building constructed in 1888, it only had the great hall and some rooms.

  • 1910

    In 1910, the first of the two wings on the 5th Avenue is finished.

  • 1930

    Between 1910 and 1929, two new spaces are created. First is dedicated to the Greek and Roman Art and the second to the American Art. Few years later, "The Cloisters", a separate new building is added.

  • 1975

    In order to expose the 2,586 pieces of art given by Robert Lehman, a new part is constructed in 1975. Among them, The Annunciation of Botticelli or Madonna and Child can be seen.

  • 1978

    Next stage of this growing museum, the Sackler Wing is built and will content the impressive Temple of Dendur. Offered by the Egyptian government, it has completely been desctruted and reconstructed into the MET.

  • 1980

    In 1980, a wing dedicated to the American decorative arts is redefined to become a bigger space with 25 different period rooms.

  • 1982

    In order to present Arts of Africa, Oceania and Americas, a new wing, named C. Rockfeller is added.

  • 1987

    In 1987, the Lila Acheson Wallace Wing is constructed to present the new developped collection of Modern and Contemporary Art.

  • 1991

    Finally, 1991 is the last year of this multiple extensions with the opening of the Henry R. Kravis Wing, which bring together pieces of the Department of European Sculpture and Decorative Arts.

  • 2018

    From 1991 to today, the MET has proceeded to numerous modifications into its wings, as the Korean Art in 1998 or the Greek and Roman Art Galleries in 2007.
    Lastly major investment, the "Met Breuer" is the new building opened in 2016 and dedicated to the Art of the 20 and 21th centuries.
